ELC
Early Learning Center Portfolio

During the Spring 2020 Semester students who worked at the Early Learning Center were given the opportunity to observe a child. During these observations, students took anecdotal records of what the child they choose to observe did during their time there. Along with these records, there were also photos of what the child worked on. At the end of the semester, these records and photos are compiled into a portfolio to show the child’s progress throughout the semester.

Volunteering at the Greater Peace Church

During the 2019 Fall Semester students were to volunteer at a place of their choosing to work with young adolescents to gain experience. During my time at the Greater Peace Church, I worked with students k-6th, assisting them with homework, fixing afternoon snacks, and playing activities together. The activities that were chosen were made by me, I planned and created a lesson plan for the games that the students would play. The lesson plan allowed me to explain why the activity would help the students build relationships with one another.

Preliminary Statement
What is a child or adolescent?
To me, a child is someone between infancy and eighteen years of age. Although children do not have to be fixed on a set age range. Most children tend to live in the moment, which is what I think is a really unique thing about children. They typically trust those that are older than them, as well as trusting their friends, and believe that people have good intentions. I also believe that most children tend to be happy because they live in the moment, and that to them is their life what they have experienced. By living in the moment, children are able to gain experience. This allows them further to mature and develop further throughout life. Children mature and develop over time, as they learn skills and develop the capacity to deal with the hardships of life.
